Lipodissolve for Cellulite
What is it?
Lipodissolve is a revolutionary
microinjection technique that is perfect for those
individuals with stubborn pockets of fat they wish
to reduce. Working like a non-surgical liposuction,
injections of a naturally occurring substance called
PPC literally dissolve fat where injected. This is
not a weight loss treatment, but rather is a way to
reduce fat in areas such as love handles, the hips,
behind the arms and other areas that won't
respond to diet and exercise.
Apart from a few days of redness and tenderness at
the injection site
Lipodissolve is a relatively painless procedure than is very effective. The use
of PPC for fat reduction is considered an "off-label" use of the medication.
How does it
work?
Lipodisslove
is similar to mesotherapy, an
injection technique for treating a
number of medical disorders that
is practiced widely in France, Italy,
Brazil and other countries.
Lipodissolve works because PPC (phosphatidylcholine)
- a naturally occurring
component of cell membranes - acts to emulsify fat when injected.
The PPC is mixed with DCA (deoxycholic acid) a bile salt that also has
fat emulsification properties. Following an injection, the PPC/DCA solution works
immediately causing a breakdown of the adiposites (fat cells). The treatment
area is red, itchy and tender for several days following treatment. Usually by the
third week a noticeable reduction in fat accumulations is evident but optimal
results appear after 3-4 treatments spaced 2-3 weeks apart. Fat cells will be
reabsorbed by the body as long as patients are on a sensible diet and exercise
plan. As with any fat reduction therapy, good results will not be achieved if
patients gain weight as fat will re-accumulate.
What happens at the time of treatment?
The PPC is diluted with
local
anaesthetic to minimize any discomfort. Tiny needles are used to inject the
medication into precise locations. Very little is felt during the procedure.
Redness does begin to appear almost immediately but irritation is minimal.
Following treatment ice may be applied to reduce any swelling. Once the
freezing wears off there is some discomfort but it is usually minor.
Is this a new procedure?
Over the past 10 years, doctors in South America and Europe have successfully
used mesotherapy and Lipodissolve procedures on hundreds of thousands of
patients.
Is it Safe?
Lipodissolve
is remarkably safe.
(Allergic reactions are
possible.) Infections are
very rare.
Small nodules can often
be felt but not seen in
the injection area after
several weeks.
These represent residual fat and can be injected for
further improvements.
What are the advantages? Among the many factors that are making
lipodissolve and mesotherapy so popular are:
- Safety: there is no need for a general anaesthetic
- Ease: pain is easily managed during and after the procedure
- Control: Lipodissolve can be fine tuned over the course of
treatment
- Appearance: there is minimal bleeding and bruising with no
sutures
needed
- Speed: Lipodissolve has a relatively short recovery period,
allowing a
rapid return to work and normal activities; no hospital stay is required
- Cost: Lipodissolve has a substantially lower cost than other
methods of
fat removal.
- Lipodissolve is now being used to help improve cosmetic
irregularities
which can occur after liposuction and it has been shown to improve the
skin texture in cellulite.
