Photorejuvenation
What is
Photorejuvenation with IPL®?
Photorejuvenation is an innovative technology that
uses intense pulses of light to fade or eliminate
benign pigmented or vascular lesions while
diminishing the size of pores and fines wrinkles
leaving your skin smoother with a more youthful
appearance. It is used in both men and women to
enhance and improve skin color, texture and tone.
Photorejuvenation is perfect for those whose skin
reflects early to moderate
signs of aging and who cannot afford the recovery time associated with other
procedures such as laser resurfacing or a face lift.
The light pulses work by coagulating small
capillaries under the skin, by
breaking up the pigment associated with age spots and by stimulating collagen
formation in the dermis. Best of all there is usually no down time with
photorejuvenation.
At Sanders Medical we use the Lumenis Vasculight Elite IPL device for photorejuvenation. The Vasculight is regarded as one of the best, most sophisticated and effective IPL devices in use today. Don't be duped into IPL treatments with Spa grade devices that are under powered and give inferior results.

Photorejuvenation can improve:
- Redness and flushing
- Facial veins and capillaries
- Rosacea
- Red scars
- Sun damaged skin
- Irregular pigmentation, age spots and birth marks
- The appearance of large pores
- Acne and acne scars
- The appearance of the skin prior to a face lift
- Post laser resurfacing redness
- Overall complexion and tone even in those without visible
sun damage
Even if you do not have much sun damage to your skin a
series of
photorejuvenation treatments will improve skin texture leaving you with a softer
more youthful appearance. Photorejuvenation treatments when combined with
microdermabrasion give an even better result.

Photorejuvenation is usually performed on the face, neck, back, arm and hand
areas to reduce the signs of aging and improve skin texture.
Each treatment takes about 20 minutes. There is a sensation of heat with the
light pulse but anaesthesia is not required.
Skin will appear flushed right after treatment and capillaries may be more visible.
Age spots may also appear slightly darker for a few days after the first
treatment. These changes will diminish gradually. You will see visible
improvement after each treatment but a series of 5 treatments is recommended
at 2 week intervals to achieve optimum results. Maintenance treatments twice a
year are recommended.
Avoid tanning before and after Photorejuvenation treatments as tanning will lead
to further skin damage.
